US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

As the lead UX research strategist with CDC’s Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology / Technology Strategy Office. My top accomplishments were :

1. Launched a public health engagement panel in Qualtrics XM with 500+ qualified professionals and completed federal PRA and ATO approvals for agency-wide use.
2. Blueprinted new user workflows for CDC programs moving from disparate systems to Palantir and One CDC Data Platform (1CDP) apps like Web Survey tool.
3. Repositioned 7 OPHDST divisions and external programs to a cascading measurement strategy with actionable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at all levels.
4. Moderated focus groups to increase national reach of CDC’s Public Health Data Strategy by 750% by engaging with state, territory, local, and tribal nations and external partners and decrease dev timelines by 3 weeks.
5. Leveraged ChatGPT and US Web Design System to develop 508 Certified UI designs when UX resources are tight.
6. Enabled leadership to take immediate action by delivering actionable results for the One CDC Data Platform (Palantir), GeoTagger SDK, ReportStream API, and RecordLinker receiving data from US jurisdictions.

Prior to joining CDC, I was a digital services expert with the U.S. Digital Service, where in 2022 I was UX Research lead on the team that launched the ChildTaxCredit.gov website with the IRS and Dept of Treasury in 12 weeks. We prioritized national field work and working with vendors to engage with tax payers with disabilities.

This project include the following qualitative UX work:

• Heuristic review of the design redlines against the US Web Design System (USWDS)
• Simultaneous waves of usability studies in English and Spanish
• Engagement with parents with low vision and cognitive disabilities; I specialize in inclusive UX research and service design including accessibility and 508 standards.
• Card sort testing using Optimal Workshop for site navigation improvement

I lead the team conducting ethnographic field research on the IRS project Virtual Vita which included over 10 site visits around the country interviewing low-income tax filers in English and Spanish.

I also completed a short stint at the Department of Education where I analyzed and synthesized data collected to inform the Return to Repayment – the departments’s student loan repayment program.
